I have an awful sleep routine. Typically, I can be found at 11pm with my laptop on my chest, scrolling through Instagram with a TV show playing in the background. I know people say you’re supposed to power down hours before bed, but it’s just not going to happen for me. I have, however, have found 7 things that I am trying to do before bed to make my nighttime routine feel a little more relaxing.
Candles
I have an obsession with candles, specifically luxurious candles. I have a ridiculous collection, spanning from Bath & Body Works, to Diptyque (the ultimate for someone as candle obsessed as me). When candles are lit in our house, it instantly gives me a sense of calm.
Current Favorite: SKANDINASVIK Candle in JUL (smells like Christmas perfection)
Face Mask
Now this is not something that I do every night, But I try to make sure to mask as often as I can, typically 3-4 times a week. Something about giving yourself a little extra love and attention really makes you feel pampered. It’s also been great for my skin to really be able to focus on what it needs that day. As I write this, I currently have Mahalo’s The Bean mask on (so luxurious feeling).
Current Favorite: May Lindstrom’s Problem Solver
Body Oil
My body never really gets much care or attention. I use a body wash in the shower and I’ll throw in a bath bomb when I take a bath, but outside of that, I never really pay it much mind. I always hate the feeling after applying lotion where if feels like I can’t put my clothes on. But over the past few months, I have been getting into body oils, specifically the kind that sinks right into my skin so I can go about my business quickly. I find it’s a great way to moisturize my skin without having to stand naked with my arms in the air till everything sinks in. A nice plus is my current body oil of choice smells freakin amazing.
Current Favorite: Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black Body Oil
Face Mist
I have acne-prone skin. But I also have incredibly dry skin. After using acne fighting products, my skin can easily become even drier. Face mists are one of the best ways to add some much needed moisture back into my skin. I also find it’s a great last step right before bed to lock the rest of my skincare into place.
Current Favorite: Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Skin Energy Hydration Delivery System
Cuticle Oil
This one is newer for me. I have been trying to grow out my nails, and now that I have been paying more attention to them, I have noticed that my cuticles are pretty awful. After watching a video from Simply Nailogical, I decided that I would give cuticle oil a shot. So for the last month, I have been trying to make sure to apply cuticle oil right before bed and I have noticed quite an improvement. I also just makes me feel like I’m taking extra care of my hands which are often overlooked in my skincare routine.
Currently Using: Essie Cuticle Oil
Read
With all the technology around, I find it’s really hard for me to put everything down and pick up a book. I love to read, it just seems like I’m always doing something else that gets in the way. Since getting a Kindle, I have been making an effort to read more. When I get into bed, I try to make sure to read for a little while before going to sleep. It helps relax me before bed & allows me to dive into something other than just binge watching TV shows.
Currently Reading: Lullaby by Chuck Palahniuk
Lip Mask
I never skip this step. I have chronically chapped lips. No matter what I do, I have dry, flaky lips. So without fail, I will always apply some intense lip balm or lip mask to help combat at least some of the dryness.
Current Favorite: Basalt Overnight Lip Masque
