July Beauty Heroes Box – Josh Rosebrook

Josh Rosebrook has been in a Beauty Heroes box at least one other time. The last time the box included the Hydrating Accelerator as well as the Cacao Antioxidant Mask, both of which I have fallen in love with. So when I got this months box, I was really excited to get to try more of his products. For reference, I am 25 and over the last 2 year have developed acne like never before (I thought you were supposed to have amazing skin in your 20s…).

HeroNutrient Day Cream SPF 30
$85 for 2oz

Now I am awful about remembering to use SPF, and when I do actually remember to put it on, I typically hate it because its so thick and makes me feel like my pores are suffocating. I’ve literally had the lady that gives me a facial tell me to stop using SPF because it was clogging my pores like crazy. So when I got this in the Beauty Heroes box, I was nervous to give it a try. Being that it is mixed in with a moisturizer, it does allow me to skip a step, which makes my hectic morning routine a little easier to manage.

The Nutrient Day Cream comes out completely white, but manages to not leave me with a white cast when blended into the skin. Considering its a sunscreen, it doesn’t feel overly thick or greasy.

I have used this product every morning (that I have left the house), so I think I can safely say I have given it a fair shake. I’ve really been enjoying using it. It’s hard to say that I’ve fallen in love with a new sunscreen, but this actually makes it enjoyable to use sunscreen in the morning. Considering my very finicky skin, this has done great at not clogging my pores or causing me to breakout. It also doesn’t smell too badly of sunscreen.

My only downside for this is the price: $85 for 2 ounces. To me, that just sounds crazy for a sunscreen. But if you are looking for something that is a great day moisturizer with good sun protection and you can afford a luxury product like this one, then I think that it is great. I do, however, think that there is bound to be a great sunscreen that doesn’t clog your pores at a lower price point. So while I enjoy using it, I just think it’s too expensive for what it is.

Sidekick – Vital Balm Cream
$45 for 0.75oz

This product is an odd one for me. I live for a good balm. My favorite of the moment is the Mahalo Balm from Mahalo Skincare. The idea of having a light, but moisturizing balm-to-oil type product really makes me happy. This is more of a cream-to-balm situation which is slightly different. It’s a slightly different texture than I’m used to, but I still like it. To me, it is much thicker feeling on my skin than a traditional balm, which quickly sinks into my skin. This has the hydration of a traditional balm, but the consistency of a cream moisturizer. I could see myself using this much more in the winter months, but considering that I live in Houston, Texas and its scalding right now, I just don’t find this appropriate for this time of year, especially if you have combination-oily skin. I find it just a little bit too heavy for this time of year.

I do think that I will get a lot of use out of it this coming winter, when my skin could use the extra hydration. But for now, I find this hard to give a definite review one way of the other without getting the chance to use it once my skin gets drier. I will play with this much more in the coming months.

Overall

While I did enjoy everything in this box, I must say that I was far more in love with the last Josh Rosebrook box. That may just be because I love facial sprays and masks, so that box felt perfect for me, but something about the last box just made my heart skip a beat.

I would still highly recommend trying out Beauty Heroes boxes as I always find such high quality products for a ridiculously discounted rate. It always comes with a Hero product and a Sidekick. Some of my favorite green skincare products have come out of Beauty Heroes. When I was first getting into green beauty, everything felt so overwhelming. But when I found Beauty Heroes, it gave me a way to learn more about it with curated products so I knew everything I was getting was the best of the best. I cannot recommend them highly enough if you are just getting into green skincare.
